چکیده

AIM:To analyze serum bile acids and biliary lipids of patients with cholesterol gallstone(CS) and explore the relationship between deoxycholic acid (DCA) and CS disease.METHODS: Analysis of bile acids in serum was done with gas-chromatography in two groups: CS group (n=151) and control group (n=256). Serum bile acids and biliary lipids were also studied in 90 matched samples.RESULTS: The serum DCA was 0.955&mgr;mol/L plus minus 0.078&mgr;mol/L in CS group, which was more than that of control group (0.696&mgr;mol/L plus minus 0.047&mgr;mol/L), P < 0.01. The ratio of DCA/chenodeoxycholic acids (CDCA) was 1.76 plus minus0.30 in CS group, about two times that in control group (0.92 plus minus 0.14). The mole percent of DCA in bile was positively related to cholesterol saturation index (CSI) (P < 0.01) and the mole percent of CDCA in bile negatively to CSI (P = 0.01). There was correlation between the mole percent of DCA, CDCA and cholic acid in bile and in serum.CONCLUSION: It is suggested that DCA is lithogenic and the increased amount of DCA or the ratio of DCA/CDCA in serum may be one of the features of cholesterol gallstone patients.

Levels of serum and biliary lipids and their composition in patients with pure cholesterol and mixed gallstones.

Serum and biliary lipids were analyzed in 20 normal controls and 37 patients with pure cholesterol and mixed gallstones. Incidence of hypertriglyceridemia was significantly higher in patients with pure cholesterol stone than in those with mixed stones. The patients with both types of gallstones showed an increase in average molar percent cholesterol and decrease in molar percent total bile acid...

Effects of dietary cholesterol on cholesterol and bile acid homeostasis in patients with cholesterol gallstones.

We examined changes in cholesterol and bile acid metabolism produced by dietary cholesterol in gallstone subjects and matched controls. Healthy women were recruited and, after confirming the presence or absence of radiolucent gallstones, they were studied on regular diets and again on the same diet supplemented with five eggs daily for 15-18 d. Studies included plasma lipids, lipoproteins and a...

The effect of diabetes mellitus and its treatment on the lithogenesity of bile in man.

Bile lipid and bile acid compositions of twenty-five diabetic patients (eight males and seventeen females) were compared with those of twenty normal subjects and twelve non-diabetic patients with cholesterol gallstone. Diabetic patients were grouped into the untreated, insulin-treated and untreated patients with gallstone. The results are as follows. The average molar percentage of cholesterol ...

Relative measurement of heavy elements in the bile, gallbladder and gallstone

ABSTRACT  BACKGROUND: PIXE (Particle Induced X-Ray Emission) is a suitable method for the analysis of biological samples in which heavy trace elements are contained in light matrix elements. It is very important to know which factors or probably elements act as initial seed and lead to growing the sands. The goal of this study was to compare the relative values of Fe/K, Cu/K and Zn/K for gallst...

Increased expression of LXR alpha, ABCG5, ABCG8, and SR-BI in the liver from normolipidemic, nonobese Chinese gallstone patients.

Cholesterol supersaturation of bile is one prerequisite for gallstone formation. In the present study of Chinese patients with gallstones, we investigated whether this phenomenon was correlated with the hepatic expression of genes participating in the metabolism of cholesterol and bile acids. Twenty-two nonobese, normolipidemic patients (female-male, 11:11) with gallstones were investigated wit...
